Let's start at the beginning: the brain. How is our brain structured? Fax Lists We actually have three brains: The Reptilian Brain The reptilian brain is 500 million years old, making it theFax Lists oldest of the three. It is constantly preoccupied with our primal urges for reproduction and survival. That means it always focuses on two things: seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. It reacts automatically and quickly, instinctively. Fax Lists Our three basic reflexes are also located in this brain: fight, flight or freeze. The mammalian brain Over time, our ancestors began to live together more and more. That called for different behaviour.
The mammalian brain contains your emotions, your Fax Lists social behavior, body language and motivation. This brain only thinks in the short term and ensures that you remember things. Fax Lists This way you know which behavior you want to avoid or repeat. the human brain As evolution progresses, a new brain emerges: that of humans. People gradually start to live together in even larger groups and those groups develop into living Fax Lists communities that settle in a fixed place. These changes require new qualities such as abstract thinking, reasoning and planning to develop. We also call this rational thinking, in other words: your mind.
Systems thinking: Rather lazy than tired Another way to understand how it Fax Lists all works up there is the theory of System 1 and System 2 thinking, or unconscious and conscious thinking. You could say that System 1 consists of the reptilian and mammalian brain and that System 2 is the human brain. Fax Lists System 1 automatically guides you through the many choices you have to make in a day and can process information at lightning speed. That is necessary, otherwise you will have no energy left for other things. But because of the Fax Lists fleeting thinking, the intuitive System 1 sometimes makes a mistake.
